Phuket: who it suits
Phuket is the easy one. Lots of hotels, lots of food, lots to do, and you never run out of options. That’s why it works so well for first-time visitors, families who want comfort nearby, and groups where everyone wants something different.
Beach choice matters here. Patong is the party end, with the busiest nightlife. Kata and Karon are calmer, so if you want a nicer beach and fewer crowds, aim there.
Phuket packages and prices
- The 3-day Phuket island escape with James Bond Island and sea canoeing is from RM728 per person. You’ll go through Phang Nga Bay, paddle around in a canoe and stop at Naka Island. It’s the cheapest way into Phuket.
- The 3-day Phuket city highlights trip with Phang Nga Bay and FantaSea is from RM1,188. It adds Promthep Cape, Wat Chalong, Phuket Old Town and the FantaSea show.
- The 4-day Phuket trip with Phi Phi, Maya Bay and FantaSea is from RM1,388. This is the fuller version, with James Bond Island, Phi Phi and Maya Bay, Old Town and the show.
You can also look through all the Phuket tours in one place if you want to compare them side by side.
Krabi: who it suits
Krabi is where people go when Phuket feels like too much. The cliffs rise straight out of the sea, the beaches are quieter, and a lot of the fun is outdoors: kayaking, hiking, climbing and boat hopping. If your idea of a holiday is waking up slowly and having a lagoon to yourself, this is it.
Krabi packages and prices
- The 3-day Amazing Krabi four islands adventure is from RM528 per person, the cheapest trip in this whole comparison. It covers Phranang Cave, Chicken Island, the Tup Island sandbar and Poda Island.
- The 3-day Krabi trip with Emerald Pool and hot spring waterfalls is from RM748. Besides the four islands, you get Emerald Pool, hot spring waterfalls and Tiger Cave Temple, so it mixes sea and jungle nicely.
- The 4-day Krabi tropical escape with Hong Lagoon and kayaking is from RM1,088. It’s the best pick if you want more time on the water.

Which is cheaper, Phuket or Krabi?
On Dhesu’s listed prices, Krabi comes in lower at the entry level: RM528 for three days, against RM728 for the cheapest Phuket option. Over four days it’s closer, with Krabi at RM1,088 and Phuket at RM1,388. Phuket costs more mainly because those packages bundle bigger attractions like the FantaSea show and Phi Phi.
Two quick reminders. These are land package prices, and your flights from Malaysia, meals outside the itinerary, shopping and spending money are extra. Dhesu’s site doesn’t list those figures, so ask for a quote close to your travel dates.
Can you do both in one trip?
You can, and plenty of people do. Dhesu suggests that 6 to 7 days is the ideal length so each place gets equal time. A typical flow looks like this:
- Days 1 and 2: Arrive in Phuket, settle in, beach time.
- Day 3: Island hopping, either Phi Phi or James Bond Island.
- Day 4: Transfer to Krabi by road or boat.
- Days 5 and 6: Krabi, including Railay Beach and inland spots.
- Day 7: Head home, or stretch the trip a bit.
Dhesu doesn’t list a ready-made combined Phuket and Krabi package, so for this one it’s best to send a custom itinerary request and have them build it around your dates and pace. The road transfer between the two takes several hours, so plan that day as a light one.
Island highlights worth knowing
- Phi Phi Islands: Cliffs, clear water and the famous Maya Bay.
- James Bond Island (Koh Tapu): A limestone pillar standing in Phang Nga Bay. It’s popular, so expect company.
- Railay Beach: A peninsula wrapped in cliffs, reachable only by boat. It feels far more remote than it is.
- Emerald Pool and Tiger Cave Temple: Inland stops near Krabi town for when you want a break from the sea.
- Panyee Village: A fishing village on stilts in Phang Nga Bay, and a Muslim community, which is a nice detail for Muslim travellers.
Best time to go
Roughly November to April is the dry season, and it’s the best window for beaches and boat trips. The wetter months bring more rain and rougher seas, especially for the far-off islands, and tours can get shifted around because of the weather. If you’re travelling then, leave some flexibility in your plan rather than packing every day.
