Dhesu Travel’s 4-day Jakarta and Bandung Whoosh tour does exactly that. It’s a private trip starting from RM1,388 per person, flying into Jakarta, spending two nights in cool, hilly Bandung, riding the train back to Jakarta, and finishing with the city’s big landmarks. Below you’ll find how the train actually works for a visitor, the day-by-day route, the real price breakdown, and what isn’t covered, so there are no surprises at checkout.
The two ways to do this trip, side by side
Dhesu runs two versions of this route, and the only real difference is how you get between the two cities on Day 3.
| Whoosh train tour | White Crater road tour | |
|---|---|---|
| Day 3 transfer | Whoosh from Padalarang to Halim | About 3 hours by road |
| Travel time | About 34 minutes | About 3 hours |
| From | RM1,388 per person | RM1,288 per person |
| Difference | RM100 more | Baseline |
So the train costs you RM100 extra per person and gives back roughly two and a half hours of your day. If you only have four days, that’s a good trade. You can see the road version on Dhesu’s 4-day Jakarta and Bandung White Crater tour, and the train version on the 4-day Whoosh bullet train tour.
What the Whoosh actually is
A few facts from Dhesu’s itinerary, so you know what you’re stepping onto:
- It’s Indonesia’s high-speed railway, described by Dhesu as Southeast Asia’s first.
- It opened in October 2023.
- It runs 143 km at a top speed of 350 km/h.
- It’s operated by a joint venture of Indonesian and Chinese railway companies.
- The stations you’ll use are Padalarang, which is the gateway to Bandung, and Halim in East Jakarta.
Here’s the one detail that trips people up: Halim is not the airport. Your guide meets you at Halim Station and drives you into the city, so don’t expect to roll off the train straight into your flight. Your train tickets from Padalarang to Halim are included, and your guide goes with you to the station and helps with boarding, so there’s nothing to book yourself.
The 4-day route, without the fluff
| Day | Where | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Jakarta to Bandung | Meet your guide at Soekarno-Hatta, drive about 3 hours to Bandung, lunch en route, afternoon at the Riau factory outlets |
| 2 | Around Bandung | Cibaduyut leather street, then Kawah Putih and the Rengganis Suspension Bridge |
| 3 | Bandung to Jakarta | Whoosh train, Taman Mini Indonesia Indah, Merdeka Square and Monas |
| 4 | Jakarta | Shopping at Thamrin City Mall or Mangga Dua Square, then the airport |
Day 1: The road in, and your first shopping stop
Yes, you take the long road on the way in, since the train only makes sense going one direction on this route. You travel via the Cipularang Toll Road, stop for lunch at a local restaurant, and reach Bandung in time for the Riau factory outlets in the Riau-Setiabudi area. Dinner and the overnight stay are in Bandung.
Day 2: Leather first, then a volcanic lake
The morning goes to Cibaduyut, a street known for shoes, bags, wallets, belts and jackets. Dhesu notes that prices are negotiable, so bargain with a smile. After lunch you drive up to Kawah Putih, the White Crater, sitting at 2,430 m on Mount Patuha. It was formed by an 11th-century eruption, and the water colour shifts with sulphur levels and the time of day, so the lake can look different from one visit to the next. Afterwards you walk the Rengganis Suspension Bridge, which Dhesu describes as Southeast Asia’s longest. It involves heights, so go slowly if that’s not your thing.
Day 3: The reason you’re here
After breakfast and checkout, you transfer to Padalarang Station and board the Whoosh to Halim. Your guide picks you up there, you have lunch in Jakarta, and then comes Taman Mini Indonesia Indah, which shows traditional houses from all 34 provinces of Indonesia. The day finishes at Merdeka Square and Monas, a 132 m gold-tipped obelisk that has stood as a symbol of independence since 1975. Dhesu suggests golden hour for photos, and that’s good advice. Dinner and the overnight stay are in Jakarta.
Day 4: Last-minute shopping and home
After breakfast and checkout, pick Thamrin City Mall or Mangga Dua Square for your last shopping stop, then transfer to Soekarno-Hatta for your flight.
Pricing and hotels in one table
Prices are per person on twin sharing, for two adults.
| Tier | From | Bandung hotels | Jakarta hotels |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard (3-star) | RM1,388 | Tebu, Zest Sukajadi or Grand Cordela, or similar | Orchard Jayakarta or Ibis Styles Mangga Dua, or similar |
| Superior (4-star), “Most Chosen” | RM1,600 | Grand Tebu or Novotel, or similar | Novotel Mangga Dua, or similar |
Dhesu also shows a 5-star option in the enquiry form, but doesn’t list a price, so ask when you enquire. The enquiry form takes 2 to 20 adults, and Dhesu says group discounts for Indonesia start at three adults.

Getting there, and the visa question
This is one of the simpler Indonesia trips to organise. Malaysian passport holders can enter Indonesia visa-free for up to 30 days, as long as the passport is valid for at least six months beyond your travel dates. The tour starts and ends at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (CGK). Dhesu lists direct flights from Kuala Lumpur on AirAsia, Malaysia Airlines, Batik Air and Malindo Air, with a flight time of under two hours. Flights aren’t included, so ask Dhesu for timing recommendations that suit your Day 1 and Day 4 schedule.
When to go
Dhesu doesn’t give a best season for this specific tour, but its wider Indonesia travel notes help:
- April to October is the dry season and works best for most activities. July and August are peak, so book early.
- November to March brings afternoon rain across Java, though mornings are usually clear. Prices drop by about 20 to 30 percent in these months.
Because this tour is Java-based and carries a possible high-season surcharge, your dates affect the final price. If you’re planning around a school break or the festive period, have a look at the school holiday travel deals and the year-end holiday offers.
Small things worth knowing
- Bandung sits at 768 m, so the air feels cooler than in Jakarta. Pack a light layer.
- Kawah Putih is higher still, so expect it to be cooler up there.
- Monas is best near golden hour, so keep your camera battery charged for Day 3.
- Cibaduyut rewards patience. Walk a little, compare prices, then negotiate.
- Keep your passport handy, because you’ll need it valid and accessible.
Wondering what else Indonesia has beyond Bali?
If this trip has you thinking bigger, Dhesu’s Indonesia lineup goes well past Bali. Look at the 4-day Yogyakarta and Borobudur trip, the Bromo sunrise adventure, the 3-day Lake Toba trip or the 3-day Lombok island escape. Dhesu says 3 days suits one destination, 4 days is the best value, and 5 to 6 days works for combining two. Browse every Indonesia destination Dhesu covers and see what fits. Travelling with a large group? There are group and incentive travel options too, and here’s why booking through a travel agent helps with multi-city routes.
