5 Days Cambodia: The Full Picture
This is the complete Cambodia experience — the package that leaves nothing important out. Five days covering all the major sites in both of Cambodia's great cities, with time to appreciate each experience properly rather than rushing between them.
Siem Reap takes the first three days. Day 1 is a city orientation and a traditional Apsara dance performance on the first evening. Day 2 is the full Angkor Archaeological Park circuit — Angkor Wat, Angkor Thom, the Bayon, Ta Prohm, and Pre Rup — all day. Day 3 is Tonle Sap Lake: a morning boat cruise through the floating villages of one of the world's most extraordinary inland water environments, followed by the afternoon journey south toward Phnom Penh.
Phnom Penh takes the last two days. Day 4 is a complete immersion in the capital: the Royal Palace compound with the Silver Pagoda and its 5,000 silver floor tiles, the Toul Sleng Genocide Museum in the former S-21 prison complex, the Russian Market, the Independence Monument, and a Mekong River sunset cruise from the famous riverfront esplanade. Day 5 is a free morning before the airport transfer, with enough time for a final walk along the riverfront or a visit to the Central Market.

Royal Palace & Silver Pagoda — Cambodia's Royal Compound
The Royal Palace compound on Phnom Penh's riverfront contains some of Cambodia's most important buildings. The Throne Hall, built in 1917, is still used for royal coronations and state ceremonies. The Silver Pagoda — named for its floor of 5,000 solid silver tiles weighing one tonne — houses a 17th-century emerald Buddha and a life-size solid gold Buddha studded with 9,584 diamonds. The surrounding gallery walls are painted with a 600-panel mural of the Reamker, Cambodia's version of the Ramayana.
Toul Sleng Genocide Museum — Cambodia's Essential History
The former Tuol Svay Prey High School was converted by the Khmer Rouge into Security Prison S-21 between 1975 and 1979. Of the estimated 17,000 people held here, fewer than a dozen survived. The museum preserves the site exactly as it was found by Vietnamese forces in 1979: photographs of prisoners, preserved cells, and a meticulous archive. It is a difficult visit and an essential one — the experience that gives the rest of Cambodia its context.

Morning boat cruise on Tonle Sap Lake from Chong Kneas — Southeast Asia's largest freshwater lake and one of the world's most productive inland fisheries. Cruise through the floating village communities: floating houses, floating schools, floating markets. Watch fishermen casting nets and migratory waterbirds feeding in the shallows. Return to Siem Reap for lunch. Visit Artisan D'Angkor Centre — watch craftspeople at work on traditional Khmer silk weaving, lacquerware, stone carving and silver jewellery. Toul Sleng Genocide Museum: Should I Visit?
Toul Sleng is not an easy visit. The former S-21 prison complex where the Khmer Rouge systematically detained and killed an estimated 17,000 people between 1975 and 1979 is preserved almost exactly as it was found. The photographs on the walls, the preserved cells, and the documentation rooms are confronting.
Most visitors say it is essential. Cambodia cannot be fully understood without understanding what happened here and why. The museum is also remarkably well-curated, with survivor testimonies, historical documentation, and context that helps you understand the broader story of the Khmer Rouge period. Plan at least 90 minutes. Your guide will help you navigate both the history and the experience.
Royal Palace and Silver Pagoda: What to Expect
The Royal Palace compound on the Phnom Penh riverfront is one of Southeast Asia's most beautiful royal complexes. The buildings are a combination of French colonial and traditional Khmer architecture, with golden spires visible from across the river. The Silver Pagoda (officially the Temple of the Emerald Buddha) is named for its floor of 5,000 silver tiles, each weighing approximately 1 kilogram. Inside, a 17th-century emerald Buddha sits above a life-size gold Buddha studded with 9,584 diamonds and 2,086 other precious stones.
Dress code is strictly enforced: covered shoulders and knees are required throughout the compound. Sarongs are available for hire at the entrance if needed. Photography is permitted in most areas except inside the Silver Pagoda itself.
