4 Days South Vietnam: Saigon, Cu Chi & Mekong Delta
This four-day package covers the three South Vietnam experiences that define the region for most visitors: Ho Chi Minh City's urban energy and war history museums, the Cu Chi Tunnels' underground testament to the Vietnam War, and the Mekong Delta's river culture — a world of boat life, coconut palm canals, tropical fruit orchards, and village cottage industries.
Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) is the largest and most energetic city in Vietnam. The War Remnants Museum presents the American War with unflinching directness and is one of the most visited museums in Southeast Asia. The Independence Palace — where General Duong Van Minh surrendered on 30 April 1975, ending the war — is still furnished as it was that day, including the war room, the underground bunkers, and the rooftop helipad. Notre Dame Cathedral and the Central Post Office are colonial-era landmarks within walking distance.
My Tho in the Mekong Delta, 70 kilometres from Ho Chi Minh City, is the gateway to the delta's river world. The day trip includes a boat ride to Thoi Son Island through coconut palm-lined waterways, tasting of tropical fruits and honey tea, traditional folk music, a sampan paddle under the palms, and a visit to Ben Tre village to see coconut candy production and rice paper manufacturing. It is a complete picture of the Mekong Delta in a single day.

Why This 4-Day South Vietnam Package Stands Apart

Cu Chi Tunnels — Vietnam's Underground City
The Cu Chi Tunnels were hand-dug by Vietnamese resistance fighters beginning in the 1940s during the French war, and massively expanded by the Viet Cong during the American War. At their peak in the 1960s, the tunnel network extended 250 kilometres at three underground levels, containing kitchens, field hospitals, ammunition stores, and command centres. Up to 16,000 people lived underground in Ben Duoc and Ben Dinh for years at a time. Crawling through a widened tourist section of the tunnel — crouching through near-darkness — makes the history immediately visceral in a way no museum exhibit can replicate.

Mekong Delta — River Life & Sampan Paddle
The Mekong Delta is the network of waterways, rice paddies, and islands formed by the Mekong River as it spreads into nine distributaries before reaching the South China Sea. My Tho and Ben Tre, the most accessible delta towns from Saigon, give a clear view of the river culture that has sustained the region for centuries: wooden sampan boats threading through coconut palm canals, floating markets on the water, cottage industries producing coconut candy and rice paper on wooden home presses, and village musicians playing Southern Vietnamese folk songs on traditional instruments.

War Remnants Museum — History Unflinchingly Told
The War Remnants Museum in District 3 is the most visited museum in Vietnam and one of the most powerful war museums in Asia. Its collection documents the American War through photographs, weaponry, military equipment, and accounts of civilian suffering that leave most visitors shaken. The outdoor exhibition of captured American military hardware — helicopters, tanks, artillery, and the infamous defoliation aircraft — fills the courtyard. The photograph galleries on the upper floors, including works by photographers who died covering the war, are among the most significant documentary collections in the world.

Nguyen Hue Street & Café Apartment Block
The pedestrianised Nguyen Hue boulevard is modern Saigon's social centre — a wide walking street lined with the city's best coffee shops, restaurants, and the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Hall (the colonial-era Hôtel de Ville). The Café Apartment Block at 42 Nguyen Hue is a nine-storey residential building from the 1960s converted entirely into independent cafés, boutique shops, and creative studios, each occupying a single apartment and accessible by tiny vintage lifts. The building's external balconies, draped in plants and fairy lights, have become one of Saigon's most photographed streetscapes.

Dhesu has been arranging South Vietnam journeys for Malaysian travellers since 1988. Our Ho Chi Minh City guides know how to navigate the city's history honestly and thoroughly — the Cu Chi Tunnels need a guide who can explain the context, not just point at the exhibits. Our Mekong Delta operators know which villages give the most authentic experience of delta life. Every day is arranged for genuine encounter, not tourist theatre.

4 Day Saigon Mekong Delta Tour from Malaysia
A 4-day Saigon and Mekong Delta tour from Malaysia is the most popular South Vietnam package for Malaysian travellers — combining Ho Chi Minh City's urban culture and war history with the river life of the Mekong Delta in a four-day itinerary that stays in a single hotel base. The Cu Chi Tunnels are 40 kilometres northwest of the city; the Mekong Delta gateway at My Tho is 70 kilometres south — both are day trips that return to Ho Chi Minh City in the evening.
Ho Chi Minh City has the best street food in Vietnam by most accounts: pho and banh mi are everywhere, but the city's specialities — broken rice (com tam), banh cuon (steamed rice rolls), and the seafood restaurants around the Ben Thanh area — are what serious food travellers come for. The city also has the best coffee culture in Vietnam, with the Café Apartment on Nguyen Hue housing over 20 independent cafés in a single building.
