Fansipan Summit + Buddhist Spiritual Sites
Fansipan at 3,147 metres is the Roof of Indochina — the highest peak in Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia combined. The Sun World complex makes it accessible via the Muong Hoa Hiking Train and the world's longest three-rope gondola cable car. At the summit, 11 Buddhist sites include the 21.5-metre Great Buddha (cast from 50 tons of copper), the 12-metre Guan Yin statue (18 tons), and the prayer halls and shrines built into the mountain's upper slopes. Fansipan is as much a spiritual site as a summit view.
Cat Cat Village — Black H'Mong Community
Cat Cat Village is the most accessible H'Mong cultural destination in Sapa — a 30-minute walking trail from the town centre down through terraced rice paddies to a Black H'Mong settlement. Women at the entrance sell hand-dyed indigo fabrics and silver jewellery made to traditional designs. The village waterfall feeds the terraced paddies below. On clear afternoons, the view from the terrace above Cat Cat takes in the Muong Hoa Valley's full extent — the same valley through which the Fansipan cable car ascends.
