Rise before dawn for the sunrise hike up Sosodikon Hill, a gentle 400-metre ascent that takes only about 10 minutes at a steady pace. At the summit, watch daylight grow behind the granite silhouette of Mount Kinabalu — the highest peak in Southeast Asia outside the Himalayas — as the surrounding highland valleys fill with morning mist and the temperature hovers around 16°C. Return to the hotel for a full breakfast before departing for Desa Cow Farm, widely called 'Sabah's Little New Zealand' because the rolling green hillsides at 1,700 metres altitude, dotted with Jersey cows grazing contentedly against a mountain backdrop, bear an uncanny resemblance to New Zealand's South Island dairy country. At the farm, you can bottle-feed young calves, taste fresh dairy products, and learn about the farm's role in Sabah's agricultural heritage. Next is the highlight that surprises most guests: the natural fish therapy at Bombon Marakau Village on the Ranau River, where Garra Rufa fish in the cold, clear mountain stream perform their exfoliating work in a completely natural outdoor setting.
